PHOTOGRAPH AS OBJECT

Townsville

/ Australia

What happens when a photograph leaves the frame and becomes a distinct, dimensional object?

In this experimental course, we push the boundaries of traditional image-making by transforming photographic prints—on paper and fabric—into sculptural forms. Using techniques such as tearing, crumpling, stitching, folding, gluing, and shaping, you’ll learn how to create vessel-like structures that blur the line between photography, sculpture, and fiber art.

Rather than treating photographs as flat, finished surfaces, we explore them as raw material—capable of holding tension, gesture, memory, and meaning in three-dimensional space. Inspired by the language of repair and resilience, these forms become containers for narrative, emotion, and personal transformation.

By the end of the course, you’ll have a collection of tactile photo-objects and a deeper understanding of photography as a process that can hold both visual and physical depth.

For artists, photographers, and mixed media creators looking to explore photography beyond the flat surface.
